WhatsApp is preparing to launch its long-awaited username feature. A new development in the iOS beta version indicates that the WhatsApp username reservation process will soon begin. This will allow users to secure the name they want before the system is fully launched.

This feature, currently being tested for iOS beta users, will soon be available to all users. During the early access phase, users will be able to reserve the names they choose. This system aims to offer the same experience to Android users. Furthermore, the aim is for usernames to become a personal identity element, similar to social media platforms.

WhatsApp has set some rules for reserved usernames. A username must be at least 3 characters long and no more than 30 characters long. However, only letters, numbers, periods, and underscores can be used in usernames. The company will not allow fake or misleading names.

This new system represents a major transformation in WhatsApp’s identity infrastructure. The transition from a phone number-based to a username-based system will increase privacy and security. This will allow users to message anyone they choose without having to share their phone number.
